I would have had hurt feelings if one of my 41 posts caused him to block me.

Glen Bowe, any of his photos? They are amazing, or any local photographers selling prints. (not sure if my terminology is correct) Id want one say 40" x 26" or something for example.
Thanks for thinking of me. I sent you a PM with some links.

I absolutely love these days where you grab a coffee and hit the Leg grounds for a walkabout with the pup.

I should take a picture of yet another bent rim from the crater field that is River Valley Road. Fun to deal with on a snowy Saturday.

Some interesting views are from much further out to the south west but still looking towards downtown. Eg looking towards the north-east up Terwilligar drive where you can see Oliver.

The problem with Terwilligar is not knowing where to park and find a reasonably inconspicuous place to set up a tripod. The freeway has some great views but no where to park. If you know of a place with a fine view and parking nearby I would love to hear about it.

Child, 8, critically injured after being struck by a train in Hamilton

In a news release issued on Thursday, police said preliminary information has led them to believe the young girl was playing near the tracks with friends at the time of the incident.

    https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/child-8-c...lton-1.3873431

So by all means, let's teach children that rail tracks are part of a playground and that they are safe on them. It's not as if they'd ever do anything wrong as long as their parents are there at least once.

children’s sense of their surroundings does not extend far enough to allow them to do that. they are tone deaf to everything outside the world that revolves around them and to the potential of there being any world outside their own immediate perception and goals. most outgrow that once they’re past their teens but not all. until then, it’s best just to stay off the tracks.

"Be aware of your surroundings" doesn't work for kids that age. Really.

That said, the streetcar tracks are a bit of a special case. There are plazas just north and south of where the picture was taken where the tracks pass through pedestrian plazas without any separation; I wouldn't expect children to stay off the tracks in those situations.

That said, the streetcar tracks are a bit of a special case. There are plazas just north and south of where the picture was taken where the tracks pass through pedestrian plazas without any separation; I wouldn't expect children to stay off the tracks in those situations.
except kids don’t know that “those tracks” are a bit of a special case. to kids they’re just tracks and all tracks are the same.

I lenoy how there are smaller buildings that are set back with a stand of, what looks to be popular, trees in front of them. Very neat juxtaposition against the taller brick buildings right up to the street.

Interesting that all the gaps on 104th Street that exist today were existing back then too....one could argue we've done a decent job at preserving the buildings along the east side of 104th

to be honest with you i don't mind the stucco as much as the stubbiness of the tower and the chunkiness of some of it's detailing but all three of those pale in the face of it's biggest flaws which are the terrible articulation and poor urban edges at grade, and the choice of cladding and black glass at grade. who in their right mind chooses black glass for ground floor retail spaces? done right, the main floor/podium could have done a lot to overcome the rest of it.

    ummmm... no.

the zoning bylaw may require certain things to be achieved but isn’t as prescriptive as that unless it’s a dc in which case it’s written to what the applicant/applicant’s consultants want. i’m not aware of any zoning schedule that dictates a particular colour of metal cladding and black glass and prescriptive edges at grade...

the height restriction - if that’s what you’re referencing - would have been imposed by the airport overlay, not the zoning. and the response to it was designed by the project consultants, not the planning department.

The built form was a result of the zone/bylaw, the finishes on the consultants yes.

That's an interesting view of the ATB and its environs. Not often seen from that angle.

You've never seen it from that angle since there hasn't been a highrise in that location before

It took me a while to find something noteworthy and memorable about the new mall at the airport (the one that CTV News refers to as Leduc's new mall) but I think I finally found its most distinctive feature.

I discovered a way to look at the new mall sign that seems to improve it.
