Alabama Shakes did a recent decent set on Austin City limits if anybody is interested.

I'm thinking about going but more likely to go to Calgary Folk Fest same weekend where Alabama Shakes and a better selection of artists will also be playing. We'll see.
Interstellar Rodeo definitely a good option though.
Whats the capacity or total tickets sold/day? I imagine this could sell out.

Sadly I'll be out of town but the line-up looks great. That festival looks to be growing nicely and it's great to see more music festival options in Edmonton.

Wish you hadn't posted that... Just had a look at the lineup so far and now I'm somewhat undecided too?

If you haven't been Princes Island is just a wonderful venue for the fest and just really adds to the atmosphere. A relaxed setting that just perfectly suits a folk fest. With nice trails and forests separating the venues from each other. Unlike our own Folk Fest its not too hard to get tickets.
Hawreluk park and Interstellar rodeo is great as well so Win Win either way.
One other thing. At Interstellar you're going to get a younger, more hyped up crowd but with that not always the best behaved group. At Calgary Folk Fest its going to be more the laid back more appreciative, attentive audience. The type that are less interested in last call booze sales and more interested in the music. I prefer the latter. just a better vibe and you get to see the same, and much more artists.

Sonic Boom lineup looks incredibly mediocre this year. Really sucks that the "modern rock" festival is headlined by bands that haven't done anything remarkable since the early '00's.
I wasn't the biggest fan of last year's lineup, but at least they had some bigger modern bands (Young the Giant, Silversun Pickups) and was headlined by a band that's done well to stay somewhat relevant.
Edit: If this was a one-day festival the lineup wouldn't be so bad. There's some true talent in there but it's spread pretty thin over two days.

http://www.heartcityfest.com/music/2013-line-upHeart of the City was TOP DRAWER on Saturday. Great weather (best since I've been going), the stages and site set-up and management were super professional. In the past, the bands have been spotty in terms of talent level this year however band after band after band were terrific.
The highlight had to be a band called The Def in it. If anyone is booking bands and want a hip hop, groovy, soul band with great musicianship get in touch with HOTC about The Def in it.
Looking forward to this new venture in Old Strathcona: bermudafest.com

Other than Saturdays line up, the Interstellar Rodeo was a fantastic event. I found yesterday was the best by far. From the Skydiggers right through to Steve Earl, I found all the artist were truly enjoying themselves on stage. Eliot BROOD was probably the best act I have seen live in quite some time. They warmed the tent up quite well.
And I hope Serena Ryder does not lose her pure joy of interacting with the crowd.
Was at Interstellar Rodeo last night. Next to the Folk Festival this is my favourite summer event in Edmonton. The Heritage Amphitheatre is a magical venue. Amazing vibe and amazing artists. Gonna go more than one night next year.
This sounds fantastic: http://www.upndowntown.com/index.html The inclusion of the library theatre as a venue is exciting. This is what I was hoping for when the Indy Week was doing music as part of the festivities.

So I hear, tempted to check it out.
The Artery was the place to be last night for local music lovers:
Ben Disaster -- very good
Jeff Stuart and The Hearts -- Always solid. Played some new tunes. Looking forward to the new record
The Fortrelles -- I ask you, what could possibly be wrong with three sexy young ladies with great voices singing some of the 20th centuries greatest tunes (Motown) backed by a tight, rockin' band?
