For those of you worrying about vehicular clearance, looks like the pedway will be an arch.

It really looks like an “afterthought” ... as a solution to a design problem once someone took a look at elevations.

If you consider perspective (truck is closer to viewer both N-S and E-W) and that most pedway bridges have some arch built into them, I don't think there's much doubt that a truck of that size would have no trouble clearing it.

Sure, just figured out in the last week or two, that's why I had posted it would be an arch back on May 18... not too difficult to figure out - horizontal structural elements - beams, flatbed truck or flatcar rail bodies, etc - are virtually always arches, particularly before full final loading.

Don't know why so many people are basically "cheering" for there to be problems and love to believe none of the "experts" know what they're doing ?

I'm not sure what your supposed point is. That's what I'm saying... It was planned, NOT an afterthought. Reference to May was simply to point out that even then, when people were gnashing their teeth that a truck wouldn't be able to pass under the pedway an intelligent observer could figure out... A. most of that worry was due to not understanding perspective B. typical pedways have an arch to them

I believe both of my points made in May have been proven accurate - so what's your BOLD point ?

( perhaps you didn't figure out that "Sure, just figured it out in the last week or two..." was sarcasm aimed at the "afterthought" post but if you read the rest of my post it was pretty obvious )

423 outdoor seats even in "2 restaurant uses" is massive. Maybe the permit means indoor as well??

Not if they intend outdoor banquets ( which would be greate with this space)?

That's just too big for a downtown part of the city. Think of all the noise. The late night parties. I thought we wanted downtown to be sleepy. Oh wait, that's only 1 or 2 blocks west that can make exclusions like that.

IanO is too lazy to follow rules here which require a link back to the original photo, if its not his. At least he's no longer trying to take credit for photos he didn't take. I remember when he would take a photo from Twitter and attached his @ianoyeg tag under it. Bad form, but again, It's IanO

Can we not have a professional discussion and not resort to foul-mouthed and churlish discussions? If not such, the constant quarrel about petty points... I swear, there are a bunch of "children" on here with such a high attitude of self-conceited arrogance and will always nit-pick particular individuals or whatnot.

I am seriously sick and tired of reading many threads with similar discussions. I guess I'm asking too much for a public forum. But show some respect to one another. Be reasonable adults and politely refute. If you can't even do that, then I'm sure you sleep reasonably well knowing full well what kind of individual you are.

The only foul-mouth discussion came from people complaining about the discussion.

This is not a petty point. The rules of the forum state:

Hotlinking (the direct linking of images to another site/server that you do not own or control) is discouraged. Already we have had complaints from image owners and server admins about our allowing this practice. Many image owners and administrators see hotlinks as theft, and deal with it as such. This in turn exposes C2E to potential legal action.

Images you would like to post need to be hosted at a place you control and the images need to have the copyright information and contact included. ...
    (Source: http://www.connect2edmonton.ca/showt...anuary-30-2009)

Moreover, the copyright statement of the photographer who took said photo reads:
    © All Rights Reserved

You, the copyright holder, reserve all rights provided by copyright law, such as the right to make copies, distribute your work, perform your work, license, or otherwise exploit your work; no rights are waived under this license.
    (Source: https://www.flickr.com/photos/wherezjeff/42501148814/)

So it's quite clear where the rule violation has taken place and it's not on the part of the people raising the issue.

I stand by my comment and doesn’t just apply to this particular thread and discussion but to this entire forum.

Yes, rules are rules and such things should be followed; there’s no denying that. There was absolutely no need to bicker back and fourth about it. Next time people can just simply say, “Can you please post the web link and next time make sure you link directly to the source. Please and thanks.”
Response: “My apologies and will do. Here’s the source link.” [something along the lines of course]
    END OF DISCUSSION.

There was no need to ridiucule any parties in response. If the problem persists, then bring it up to the moderators. No need to constantly derail this thread.

People need to swallow a bit of their pride and like I said above; act like reasonable adults.

I merely asking for forum rules to be followed. It's quite clear from the Stantec thread now the message was received.

Like you follow the rules using real names and attacking members every chance you get

Is the last two levels of glass lighter than the rest of the building or is it just an effect of the angle? It would be cool if it was, ala Brookfield Place in Calgary. Hope they do a lighting effect in there too.
Edmonton is a very exciting place to be right now.

Yeah.. a lighting effect on top like the Enbridge Centre has would be really cool for the JW as well.

Just looking at the last picture, the last two layers of glass are a crown for hiding the mech stuff. Youre effectively looking right through seeing the sky.

Even if they just left the lights on in the mech area it would look pretty good seeing as it’s such see through glass.

Unless you're on the 56th floor of the Stantec, then not so much.
