    oikos Edmonton & MacEwan University's Social Innovation Institute are collaborating to bring you Simon O'Byrne for the first Impact Lab workshop on January 18, 2018 at MacEwan's Allard Hall.
    Simon (@Simon_OByrne) is an award-winning urban designer and planner, who is Vice President of Community Development for Stantec in Canada. As a planning expert he is frequently quoted in North America media and is a sought after public speaker. Simon has led multi-disciplinary design teams in the planning and successful delivery of large, complex, and politically charged projects. His experience ranges from intensive urban revitalization redevelopments, to the Downtown Arena and Entertainment District, to redevelopment of the Alberta Legislature Grounds, to the Saskatoon City Centre Plan, Lower Athabasca Regional Plan, Alberta and Manitoba Capital Region Land Use Plans and the Hunts Point Plan, Bronx, New York. Simon has also been the principal planner on the creation of many master planned communities, brownfield and transit-oriented developments.

    A fun and interesting night last night. The four groups took on rapid urbanization in Reykjavik, Ouagadougou, Tianjin, and one other. The mixed crowd made it one of the more interesting discussions in a long long time.

    -Water management - fresh/waste
    -Housing
    -Basic infrastructure
    -Birth rates
    -Crime
