Amazing what Vegas did to the Sharks in game one. Looks like Pittsburg is on another run. The Jets and Preds tonight.

I haven't paid much attention to him play in the regular season but if he can carry that momentum and play like he did in round one, things look good for the Jets.

So the refs let a lot go and when they call a penalty it's usually both teams then in overtime they call three marginal calls on Vegas, including disallowing the goal to take the win away from them. If I was the owner of VGK I would be on the horn to Bettman. Best of five now, still hoping for Vegas, just to show the league. I guess they really have already showed them with the season they've had. Maybe that has something to do with it. Just my opinion.

I was watching a recording of "The Greatest Royal Rumble" from Friday, so I missed the game but I followed the game on my iPad. A 2-0 lead in the series would be the best possible outcome for the Jets but a split is the next best thing. This series will go 7 games.

That was two really good games last night, both decided in the final minutes. I had been having a hard time watching much playoff hockey until last night, but that was entertaining as heck.

In most cases imo Home ice advantage always decides the series. This series imo will go 7 games down to the wire in Nashville, and anyone want to Bet(tman) there will be a controversial call against the Jets game 7? Shades of Ducks/Oilers last year. The narrative is underway, like in WWE the script already written. Only the audience doesn't know the outcome. Twenty five years since Bettman later, no Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup. Granted Gary Bettman has been vilified enough over the years especially in Canada. Conspiracy? I'm leaning that way but as long as Bettman is the NHL boss, sorry to say this but no Canadian team will ever win the Stanley Cup. I'd like to see a Winnipeg/Pens in the finale, and that could happen. Its a dangling carrot in front of Canadian fans. Please keep in mind I'm not whining, just observing.

Its been over 25 years since a Canadian team won the cup. We all know this. If there were a balance of Canadian US/teams, then fine but other then Quebec city, maybe Atlantic Canada, Canada has about run out of cities that can support a NHL team. There was a pol some years ago that a Canadian team has a 99.2 % chance of taking the Cup. This comment basically says it better then I could:

The NHL and Gary Bettman can't afford to have a Canadian team win the Stanley Cup. Its no secret that Bettman (an American) is trying to develop the game in the US and is seeking the coveted US TV contracts. So the best way to do this is to have US team win the cup to drive up support in the US, however he can't alienate the CDN fans either. So what are we seeing, usually a CDN team makes it quite far (to appease CDN fans - who are the strongest economic supporters of the game) only to be ousted by a US team. Take a look at the inconsistent officiating whenever a CDN team plays and it will become clear that there is a slight incline towards US teams when it comes to making calls. Do not forget HOCKEY IS A BUSINESS and the number one goal of any business is to make money and there is no money in a CDN team winning as CDN fans will attend games whether the team wins or loses. The game as we knew it is gone - Thanks Gary!

What a load of BS. I'm not even going to read that crap. I'm sick of the whining from some Canadian fans. It's embarrassing. There is no favouritism toward US teams by officials. The NHL doesn't have it in for Canadian teams. It's as silly an idea as saying the draft was rigged for the Oilers. Or 9/11 conspiracy theories.

How do you get from "it's a business", to "the game is rigged"? By connecting dots you invent to suit your theory.

Find one fan of any team that thinks refs are biased toward their team.

What difference would it make anyway, when the power play and penalty killing came up short, at the worst possible times, all season long?

More than anything else I can think of, it's the tax advantage in certain jurisdictions that makes it harder for Canadian teams to compete salary wise. Travel also plays into things. Pretty easy for teams on the East coast.

If anything, the Oilers benefitted from the expansion draft, because, for some reason I can't fathom, they didn't have to protect younger players.

So while other teams were losing good players, and making costly deals to avoid losing good players, the Oilers gave up a guy who isn't even an NHL player. So unfair.

The Oilers stunk. The Canadiens stunk. Vancouver stunk. Ottawa stunk. The Leafs were beat in round one by a better team. Winnipeg is still in it, and look pretty good against last year's finalist.

Great to see Vegas win it tonight. On to the conference final. Vegas has a very good team and I think they also have Vegas Lady Luck riding along with them. Congratulations to them and their fans. Hoping it will be them and the Jets next round.

The game isn't rigged? Maybe not so much during the regular season but try telling that to Oilers fans during last years Ducks/Oilers playoff run.

But we beat up that horse here last year.

You mean the current round? Game #6 is today. I suspect this round (Jets/Preds) will go 7 games. The Pressure is on Nashville to pull a come from behind or their done. The odds are against Nashville this evening but never say never.

Ah, I believe I said something like "I'd like to see Jets/Pens in the finale.

So the jets are down 3 zip with a few minutes left. A lot of sad whites in the arena. If this is their best then they're done. Likely Preds vs Vegas.

Of course! I was glad they got a team back, and I'm thrilled they are doing so well! Of course certain posters think its a fix for a US team to win. It's hardly been a zzzzz series!

The Jets screwed themselves over with that loss. Byfuglien dropped the ball, no kidding.

Vegas sitting back licking their chops while the caps and bolts beat each other up. Will lady luck follow the knights into the final? I'm thinking she will.

However, Washington has momentum. With game 7 in TB smart money would go in favour of the home team. Most likely TB/Vegas in the finale. In that case I'm pulling for TB.

I was in Vegas on the weekend. They're pretty in to it. It was heartening to see. The locals were saying that even when the Raiders move over, the knights will probably still more be more popular since many already have 'their' NFL team (and it's not the raiders). We watched game 4 on the big screen outside the arena. Good vibe, lots of people there, but nowhere near what YEG would put out if the Oilers made it that far. As expected, the entertainment industry has really picked up on it. Every bar was showing NHL, even the other series. Bars around the arena were packed. Not as many Jets fans as I was expecting.
Every time the Knights win, the Bellagio fountains play Viva Las Vegas.

I agree with this nobleea. I was there in March. If someone found out I was Canadian they wanted to talk Golden Knights. And I was happy to cooperate. Love that arena vibe. The Senators were in town when I was there. Good atmosphere in their yard area (bandstand, etc.). And the spill over into the strip on the backside of New York New York was great. They've adopted their hockey team as it's homegrown. The Raiders are inherited. Many told me "love the Raiders, hate their fans....". It's an 8.5 hr drive from Oakland to Vegas but some (many?) will do it and make a weekend of it in Vegas.

Looks like I'm the black sheep, again. I'm pulling for Washington, for Ovechkin.

Like Carolina Hurricanes against the Oilers in 2006, Vegas will be a 1 hit wonder if the win and hoist the Stanley cup. I appreciate the Cinderella narrative but the Caps have paid their dues and then some.

Almost stunning how the Caps have manhandled LV especially considering how handily they got to the finals and the Caps having two series go to 6 games and then 7 games against Tampa.

^ The series has been a lot more even than the scorelines indicate. Fleury let in 4 goals in 14shots last night. The Knights hit 3 goal posts in the game and two early. Could have been a much different result. Kind of odd too to see Vegas outshooting the Caps on the road and down 4-0 in the game. For some reason Fleury's game has fallen off in the final.

Another factor is Vegas topsix has gone cold.

A third factor is Vegas no longer getting beneficial officiating. They were milking a lot of calls they aren't getting now. Its embarrassing how bad the officiating was in the earlier series. Its like officials took 4 series to get wise to whats going on out there. Vegas do a lot of cheap shots and try to get retaliation going.

ps The Sharks were better than the Knights in that series. Without Fleury standing on his head the Knights lose that series. The Caps are doing essentially what the Sharks did except Fleury is mortal again now. It happens.

Regardless of the outcome Vegas has had an unbelievable season. Letís see Seattle, Quebec, or any other upstart team in the future try to trump that.

Most roads the SCF involve a goalie taking a series when they should have lost. The oilers wouldnt have even made the playoffs in 2006 with out Rolosson

I think Fleury is being caught out of position and canít make it back across for the second shot. I think he should play tighter in the net.

Agreed. It was unrealistic to expect Fleury to maintain a .957 through out the entire playoffs. He's become normal, Knights don't have any scoring.

LV is definitely out of sorts. I wonder if the extra days of rest affected the tempo and rhythm of their game. Washington has cut off their passing lanes in the offensive zone and it appears that the timing of LV is slightly off as well. Credit to Washington's players for blocking so many shots.

Plus LV has been coughing up the puck and Washington have been opportunistic. Their forecheck doesn't seem to be working as effectively either. Whatever the case their mojo has definitely deserted them.

Trotz was the right coach. The Caps have been playing a better all round game in his tenure and the buy in from the whole club was pretty complete. The interesting thing about this playoffs is the Caps turned from choker reputation to clutch. They lost first 2 at home against Columbus and then won the next 4 straight. They of course had tough moments against the Pens but found a way to prevail. They were then facing elimination twice in Lightning series but gutted out the W. They deserved to be here in the SC final, were better than everybody they faced, and got better and better as each series progressed. The latter is interesting and probably reflects on how well coached this club is. I've never seen a more complete Ovi game than he was playing this postseason.

So you're saying that if the Vegas Golden Knights won, they didn't deserve it? What a stupid comment. They didn't deserve the cup because they've been around for 43 years and hadn't won it, they deserved the cup because they worked their butts off and beat the other teams.

This was a final where I didn't really care who won the cup; I'd be happy with the Golden Knights winning in their first year, and I'm certainly happy to see Ovechkin win it.

P*ssed at a hockey game? I've certainly been, but I wasn't last night. It was great to see Ovi win it. I just disagree with you that a team is owed a championship because they've been around for a long time and haven't won it. Is Vancouver owed a Stanley Cup, or Arizona, St Louis, Buffalo? You sound like a big fan of the "participation" awards so prevalent these days. "Oh little H.L. you tried sooo hard... here's your trophy for finishing last! Great work!" The Capitals deserved the award because they battled hard and were the team that came out on top - that's all. They weren't OWED anything. That's not how sports work.

It would likely be after all the June nhl events such as awards, draft etc. Maybe after stampede is over too or people would only be talking about that during stampede and it would dampen spirits. I say end of July would be a good time to announce.

Today Air Canada Centre becomes Scotiabank Arena as The Bank of Nova Scotia has inked a deal with Maple Leaf Entertainment for naming rights on the building. The deal is 20 years for $800,000,000.00 My good lord, must be a typo. How could that ever make them money. Itís $40mil a year. They could build two such buildings for $800mil. Own them outright, then hang their signs up. Lease them out, one to the flames and one somewhere else. Seems like crazy money spent to me.

Not sure if this is true or not but last time I checked the ACC was owned by the Ontario teachers pension plan. The Ontario teachers also sold off a large portion Maple Leafe Sports Entertainment. I think this was ~ 2010, something like that. Ontario Teachers was (is?) worth something like $3 Billion.
